They share mixed reactions online
Soon after the first screenings, moviegoers started posting their reviews about the script, narrative style and action sequences.A social media user wrote, “#Kattalan First Half Review Plot Ivory smuggling and Gang rivalry is an elaborate entry setup for the main characters, Strong Villians BGM By Ravi Basrur Pepe’s average entry is excellent. Not much momentum so far Interim lockout 2nd half needed solid 1st half decent.”Another viewer criticized the film’s execution and sound design, while sharing his disappointment with the first installment. The comment read: “#Kattalan – First Half – Headache!! Too loud BGM and slow frames can’t save the poor script and listless narration. The biggest problem is that I can’t understand what most of the characters are saying except Jagadeesh because of the loud BGM and sound recording.”
Ravi Basru’s point at the back has won plaudits
While reactions to the script remained mixed, several viewers praised the background score composed by Ravi Basrur. An audience reaction said, “#Kattalan gets a great response after the first part! Nice action blocks with spine chills and the story telling becomes interesting and intense for the second part. All eyes on the second part! Ravi basur is peaking at the right time.”However, not everyone was impressed with the overall presentation of the film.
Some viewers compare the film to popular gangster dramas
An early review described the film as repetitive and criticized its narrative style. The user wrote: “#Kattalan – BELOW AVERAGE FIRST HALF Old wine drug cartel, Gangster War Drama, no more exciting with the flavor of Marco’s Narration. Nothing impressive except Ravi Basurar Bgm. Action blocks and Perfo Feel Poor SHed.”Many viewers also noticed similarities in tone and visual style between ‘Kattalan’ and ‘Marco’. The appearance of Marco-related actors further fueled speculation about a possible cinematic universe.
