Starring in a sports action drama film can demand blood, sweat and tears from the actor playing the role. And it is the case of Ram Charan, who worked hard for his film, ‘Peddi’, where he toughened up the grill to play a muscular fighter. Let’s take a look at the actor’s fitness journey.
Building a Desi Fighter’s Body
As the film shows Ram Charan as a Peddi who hails from a village, his body was expected to be that of a desi pehalwan and it was not very accurate as per the brief received by the body builder from his trainer Rakkesh R. Uddiyar from Buchi Babu Sana. His fitness team planned a weekly structure where they did two types of exercise. On alternate days they did muscle training with cardio fasting and on other days they focused on functional movement with kushti exercises and mobility exercises, the trainer explained in an interview with the Indian Express.
Traditional Indian training methods
In his exercise for physical combat, they also used traditional Indian exercise equipment. They also performed Surya Namaskar, tug-of-war and akhada exercises.
Carb cycling diet plan
To maintain high muscle tone, calories must also be taken care of. The team created a 1,800-2,500 calorie plan, known as carb cycling.During the shoot, Ram Charan also did a quick Ayyappa Mala. It became a difficult issue for the team as the actor was on a 50-60 percent vegetarian diet, but during this period he did a complete vegetarian diet. This made the process a little difficult for the team. On days when the team felt Ram Charan was low, he was given extra calories.Ram Charna used to have his first meal in his car on his way to the sets. The group held a group chat where his chef, doctor, dietician, bodyguard, trainer and personal staff would discuss together how to take care of his body.
Months of preparation for the fight
The director also revealed in an interview with IANS that the actor trained for 3-4 months to fight in the film. He also shared that they roped in a trainer who used to train Aamir Khan in the movie “Dangal”. The makers also included wrestlers from Telangana in the film and gave training to the artiste in the film.Keeping various factors in mind, the team restrained themselves from casting Ram Charan as Peddi Pehelwan.
