‘Raja Shivaji’ has made a historic opening at the domestic box office as it released in theaters on Maharashtra Day. The film starring and directed by the actor Riteish Deshmukhmade a splash with a whopping haul of 11 million on Day 1.Raja Shivaji Marathi Box OfficeAccording to a report on Sacnilk, the film earned a whopping Rs 8 crore on Friday from its Marathi version alone. This makes the film top in the list of highest debut collections for a Marathi film.The historical action drama managed to surpass this milestone from just 1,941 shows, and enjoyed a strong average occupancy of 68%. This record breaking start comes after the film registered extraordinary advance bookings, which already gave the film a good start.Prior to its release, Raja Shivaji closed its advance sales at 5.14 crore gross, of which 4.25 crore gross (3.60 crore net) was collected from the original Marathi version alone. With this, the film comfortably surpassed the Day 1 records of ‘Sairat’ and ‘Timepass 2’, both of which earned around Rs 3.60 crore on their opening days.The incredible opening of the film has been largely fueled by its Marathi version, which has enjoyed high occupancy in multiplexes and single screens across Maharashtra.While the Marathi version of the film earned approximately 8 crores, the addition of 3.35 crores from the Hindi screenings of the film helped it cross the 10 crore mark in total and earn a collection of 11.35 crores. As per the early box office trends, it was reported that the film would be in the Hindi format to help it cross the Rs 10 crore mark.The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte and Genelia Deshmukh. It also stars Salman Khan in a cameo role.
