The Padma Awards have put the spotlight on several film and music names this year, among others Mammootty, Alka YagniR Madhavan, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Satish Shah, Anil Rastogi and Dharmendra. But the honor does not come with a cash prize, monthly stipend, travel concession or special financial benefits. Winners receive a certificate and medal signed by the President, while the award recognizes their contribution to public life and service.

News18 reports that many people often wonder what Padma award winners receive after the ceremony. The answer is simple. The Padma Awards do not award cash prizes. The Government does not give any money, allowance or concession to Padma Vibhush, Padma Bhushanor Padma Shri. As per Padma Awards rules, “There is no monetary allowance or any facility/benefit in respect of concession etc. on train/air travel are added to these awards.’ Awardees receive a Sanad, which is a certificate signed by the President of India. They also receive a medallion. A small replica of the medal is also given to the recipient for ceremonial use. Awards are not titles. Recipients may not use Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan or Padma Shri as a prefix or suffix to their names. The rules also state that misuse may result in forfeiture of the prize.

The Padma awards are among India’s highest civilian honours. The government announces them every year on the eve of Republic Day. Awards are given in three categories. The Padma Vibhushan honors outstanding and distinguished service. The Padma Bhushan honors distinguished service with a high command. The Padma Shri honors distinguished service in any field.This year, Dharmendra was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema. Mammootty and Alka Yagni received Padma Bhushan. R Madhavan, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Satish Shah and Anil Rastogi received the Padma Shri for their work in cinema, music and the arts.
