New Delhi: India PV Sindhu Her impressive run at the 2026 Australian Open came to an end after losing in straight games to reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles semi-finals in Sydney on Saturday. Sindhu fought hard in the opening game but eventually missed out on a place in the final, losing 22-20, 21-12. The Indian shuttler entered the semi-finals with a lot of confidence after putting up a series of strong performances. In the quarter-finals, she overcame Chinese Taipei’s Chen Su-Yu 21-6, 21-9 in just 27 minutes, highlighting the form that has made her one of the best players of the tournament.Ranked 10th in the world, Sindhu was making only her second semifinal appearance of the 2026 BWF World Tour season. His previous run to the last four came at the Malaysia Open in January, and the Australian Open provided another encouraging outing for the two-time Olympic medalist.Before reaching the quarter-finals, Sindhu continued her progress in the competition by defeating fellow Indian Isharani Baroah 22-20, 21-12. She entered the tournament looking to claim her first BWF World Tour title after winning the Syed Modi International in Lucknow in 2024.Although her title challenge ended in Sydney, the semi-final finish added to what has been a promising revival for Sindhu in 2026. With consistent performances and another deep run on the World Tour, the Indian star continues to show signs of returning to his best form.
