The single-engine Cessna 172 crashed on Monday, May 18, 2026, in a field near the airport. As the pilot had to change course and was trying to land the plane, the certified flight instructor in his 20s was unable to survive the crash, although he was taken to nearby Westerly Hospital, according to The New York Post. “It was the loudest bang I’ve ever heard in my life. I thought something fell off a truck,” neighbor Kerry Vacca told WPRI.
