‘Patriot’ box office and critical response
“Patriot” opened to strong numbers in India. According to Sacnilk, the film earned 9.80 crores on Day 1. It was broadcast in 2,636 sessions nationwide. The Indian gross reached 11.37 crores. The film also had a lot of work abroad. It collected 18.00 crores in the international markets on its opening day. This brought the total worldwide gross to 29.37 million. Our critics also paid attention to the action film. Our exclusive ETimes review of the film reads: “Mammootty, as Daniel James, carries the first half of the film on his shoulders, along with the expectation of an audience rally. For the patient cinephile, this film only works when you’re willing to participate in the world-building and character development. Daniel becomes a vlogger, only after an interesting first-quarter and slow-motion scene adds more intrigue. Casting Mohanlal in a significant role that has not yet made a physical screen appearance deepens that intrigue and rewards patience. Mammootty delivers an exemplary performance as Daniel.”
