Resuming the third day at 110 for 3 with an already established lead, Bangladesh extended their dominance through Mushfiqur and Latin Das. The pair added 123 runs for the fifth wicket, with Litton falling to Hasan Ali for 69. Mushfiqur scored 137 runs, reaching his 14th Test century and overtaking Momin-ul-Haq as Bangladesh’s highest Test century.
The veteran also got useful support from Tejul Islam, who scored 22 runs in a partnership of 77 runs for the eighth wicket. The Bangladesh team was eventually bowled out for 390 runs, Khurram Shehzad took 4 wickets for 86 runs and Sajid Khan took 3 wickets for 126 runs.
Pakistan reached stumps for 0 after two overs, but history is against them. No Pakistan team has ever chased down more than 377 in Tests, and the world record 418 remains. After Bangladesh won the first Test, the visitors now need their biggest ever chase to level the series.
Despite the odds, Pakistan fast bowling coach Umar Gul remained optimistic, saying the team would play for victory and not settle for a draw. However, Bangladesh spinner Tejol said the scoreboard pressure alone could affect Pakistan, adding that discipline will be key with two days to go.
