The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has given a detailed response to the South Indian Artists Association following the recent tensions between the two organisations. The reply comes after TFPC’s general body meeting on April 26 under new president Tamil Kumaran. In that meeting, some key decisions were taken, including the introduction of a profit-sharing model for operators and technicians and the introduction of an eight-week gap before OTT rollout. The TFPC has also announced a strike from May 2, prompting the Nadigar Sangam to respond. The TFPC denies the allegations and calls the claims “false”.In its reply, the TFPC strongly rejected the allegations made by the Nadigar Sangam. Nakkheeran reports that the producers’ body has stated that the claims of baseless allegations are “not true” and accused the actors’ body of spreading misinformation in the media. The TFPC clarified that all decisions were taken keeping in mind the welfare of the Tamil film industry. He emphasized that the ongoing reform discussions were not sudden, but part of a long-term plan discussed with various industry organizations.Producers highlight past discussions about the profit-sharing modelThe board said that discussions on the reorganization of the industry are ongoing from August 2024. There were talks with TFPC, Nadigar Sangam and South India Film Employees Federation.TFPC said it had officially introduced the profit-sharing model for major actors on August 18, 2024. He also announced the concept much earlier in June 2023. According to the producers, Nadigar Sangam responded saying that the final decision would be taken after internal meetings with the actors, but no clear outcome has been shared so far.The TFPC has warned of a strike, but leaves room for dialogueThe producers’ body expressed disappointment that the Nadigar Sangam was not aware of these discussions. The TFPC stressed that the issue has been repeatedly discussed in meetings and communicated verbally to senior officials in the office. He also stated that the delay in making decisions has caused financial pressure on producers. Therefore, the TFPC said it was forced to announce a token strike. However, the ultimatum was not final as it indicated that the strike decision could be reconsidered if the Nadigar Sangam agreed to immediate talks. In any case, the strike will take place as planned.
