New Delhi: Former India captain MS Dhoni After emerging as the highest individual taxpayer from Jharkhand and Bihar during the 2025-26 financial year, he has added another remarkable feat to his legacy outside the cricket field.This was revealed by the Principal Chief Commissioner on Thursday. Sudhakara Rao while addressing the media in Ranchi.“The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year 2025-26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 12,000 crore was collected from Jharkhand alone,” Rao was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
He further confirmed that Dhoni tops the list of individual taxpayers in two states.“MS Dhoni was the highest individual taxpayer in Bihar and Jharkhand combined during the last financial year,” Rao said, though he declined to reveal the exact amount of tax paid by the former India captain.A large part of Jharkhand.According to Income Tax DepartmentJharkhand alone contributed about 60 percent of the combined tax collection from the two states. About 70 per cent of the total revenue came through tax deducted at source (TDS), officials said.Among corporations, Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and CMPDI were among the highest taxpayers.Officials admitted that mining activities in Jharkhand were affected due to heavy rains during the financial year, affecting tax collection figures.“During the last fiscal year, mining activity was slightly affected due to heavy rains, which affected the collection. We expect the tax collection to cross Rs 20,000 crore during the current fiscal year,” Rao said.4 million file returns onlyThe department also revealed a huge gap between PAN card holders and active taxpayers in the region.Out of about 5.5 crore PAN card holders in Bihar and Jharkhand, only 4 million currently file income tax returns.
