After a long gap, Jyotika is making a strong comeback in Hindi films. The actor first entered cinema in 1998 with a Hindi debut, before making it big in Tamil cinema, having only appeared sporadically in Bollywood over the years. But in 2024, he returned to Hindi films after more than 25 years. With her third Hindi film on the horizon in barely two years, Jyotika is clearly making up for lost time. She will next be seen in ‘System’, a legal drama directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, in which she also stars. Sonakshi Sinha.
Jyotika Ashwiny on why working with Iyer Tiwari on ‘System’ was ‘always comfortable’
Ahead of the release of ‘System’, Jyotika spoke to Hindustan Times about the film, her role and her experience working with Ashwiny. The film marks the first time Jyotika, Sonakshi Sinha and Ashwiny are working together. Jyotika says working with a female director is “always comfortable” and feels there is a natural understanding between them. “He listened to us, probably a little more than a male director would on set,” she says with a smile. He also felt a deeper connection working with a woman. “It’s more connected to your gender. It’s more connected to your thought process, rather,” she says.
How Jyotika Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari handled intimate scenes on the set of ‘System’
Jyotika also appreciated the way sensitive scenes were handled on set. “I also feel that many of the intimate scenes were shot with respect. He shot them the way he wanted to see them and the way we would like to see ourselves on screen,” he added.
Sonakshi Sinha on working with a female director in ‘System’
He also spoke about director Sonakshi and said, “Only a woman understands another woman in a real way. I’ve always had a great experience working with women directors. I prefer it. They approach everything with a different sensibility, sensitivity and vulnerability. That is very important to bring out characters who are flawed, real and human.’

‘System’ is about a court stenographer with a simple life, played by Jyotika, who helps a young prosecutor played by Sonakshi Sinha. The film also stars Ashutosh Gowariker as a popular defense lawyer, he is also the father of Sonakshi’s character. It is directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and produced by Pammi Baweja. Harman Bawejaand Smitha Baliga, the film will be on Amazon Prime Video on May 22.
