The wicket came in the 14th over when Shardul Thakur bowled a full delivery on the pads. Shedge tried to flick it towards short mid-wicket but the ball went in the air. Raj Bawa moved quickly to the left and dived to complete the catch, ending Shedge’s innings for 8 off 5 balls.
After a strong start by Punjab Kings, this wicket was part of the fall due to Shardul Thakur. Asked to bat first after four consecutive defeats, PBKS scored 200 for 8 in their allotted overs.
Prabhasmaran Singh led the innings with 57 runs, while Priyansh Arya scored 27 runs during a 33-ball 50-run opening.
Mumbai Indians dropped Prabhasmaran earlier, and the opener made the most of it by helping PBKS to 55 for 1 in the powerplay. He later added 57 runs with Cooper Connolly as Punjab crossed the 100-run mark in the 12th over.
Deepak Chahar dismissed Priyansh Arya in the fifth over to give Mumbai their first win.
Shardul, who had conceded 15 runs in his first over, struck twice in three balls to turn the game. He removed Prabhasmaran and then dismissed PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer for 4 runs.
Raj Bawa then bowled Connolly to a cross-seam delivery before he took a catch and dismissed Shadege off Shardul.
Despite the collapse, Punjab Kings finished strongly by scoring 53 runs in the last three overs.
Azmatullah Omarzai scored 38 off 17 balls with two sixes and a four while Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett added runs late on.
Vinod and Bartlett put on 22 off Corbin Bosch’s final over, aided by two catches near the boundary, as PBKS crossed the 200-run mark for the eighth time this season.
