At the height of his stardom and career, Madhuri Dixit took a surprising decision to move away from films and live a quieter life in the US with her husband Shriram Nene. When she got married and left films, she left many fans heartbroken. Interestingly, when the two got married, Nen had little idea about Madhuri’s stardom in India and did not even watch her films. For Madhuri, this was one of the biggest reasons for choosing life with him, as it allowed her to escape the constant spotlight and live a more normal life away from the glamor industry.In an old interview ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal‘, Madhuri talked about the moment she realized Nene was really famous. Recalling her reaction at the wedding reception, she said: “I think at our wedding reception. She was like, oh my God, there’s a lot of people and I told her the line doesn’t end there, it ends there. She didn’t know how big a star I was. I knew she’s an Indian star. She never had the full impact of that.”Born in London and raised in the United States, Nene was not familiar with Hindi cinema or Bollywood celebrities. Madhuri said there was only one actor she met at the wedding – Amitabh Bachchan.She revealed, “The only star she met at our wedding reception was Mr. Amitabh Bachchan because she saw Amar Akbar Anthony as a child.”Even after understanding Madhuri’s immense popularity, Nene was not particularly interested in watching Bollywood films. Sharing a funny memory, Madhuri said, “Me and her mother tried to show her one of my films and my song, and she said, ‘Can’t we do something else? Let’s go out and do something’.” He hasn’t seen many Bollywood movies. He comes from a different sensibility, but he loved Devdas.’After getting married in 1999, Madhuri moved to the US and spent over a decade living in Denver, Colorado, focusing on family life and raising her two sons. He tried to make a comeback with the 2007 film ‘Aaja Nachle’, although the film did not do well at the box office.The actor finally returned to India with his family in 2011, and it was his second strong foray into Hindi cinema that wowed critics in ‘Dedh Ishqiya’. Since then, she has appeared in films like ‘Kalank’, ‘Gulaab Gang’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’.Madhuri is now gearing up for the release of ‘Ma Behen’, which also stars Triptii Dimri in the lead role.
