Madhuri Dixit recalls her husband Dr. Sriram Nene being shocked to see her stardom, says her life in Denver was liberating, where she was just a wife and mother.

Madhuri Dixit Nene has been one of the most famous stars in Bollywood, and it is almost impossible to go unnoticed in public. However, she left the industry at the peak of her fame and settled in the US after marrying Dr. Sriram Nene. After many years of marriage and two children, the actor returned to India and resumed his career. In a recent interview, Madhuri spoke about her life after marriage and how Nene was just a lady there and not a superstar. In an interview with HT City, she said: “In Denver, it was smoother and nicer because there were less Indians. Where I lived, there were mostly Americans. For a long time, they didn’t know who I was, I was Mrs. Nene there. I had my children (Arin and Ryan), I used to go to school to drop them off. One day, I saw a car coming and stopping at our house, then turning around and coming back. My neighbors called me…vahaan darr laga rehta hai that someone might be trying to steal, people be careful. The neighbor asked: “Should I call the police?”; “Please don’t!” I told him I had to tell them that I’m a celebrity, and that the people in the car were trying to see me.’The actor described those years away from fame as one of the most fulfilling periods of his life. Enjoying the freedom of being a stranger, she was able to focus on her family and spend quality time with her children.Calling the experience “liberating,” she said, “I was free to do anything at any time. I enjoyed so much ‘me time’ with my kids. It was a big part of my life’s dream… to have a husband that I love, with kids. I lived my dream there.”Madhuri also revealed that when she met Dr. Nene, she was not aware of the size of Indian stars. Reflecting on how he adapted after moving to India, he shared that he now has a strong bond with the film fraternity.“We’ve been here in India since 2011. He’s friendlier to people in the industry now than I am! He’s even said in interviews ‘I knew he was an actor, I didn’t know how much of an actor he is!’ When he first came here, it was amazing. Today everything is fine, our kids are growing up, I enjoyed playing the character of Rekha in Maa Behen. I’m in a good place.”
