Thomas Cup: India beat Australia to make it to the last eight

Indian men booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Thomas Cup with a 5-0 win over Australia in their second Group A tie in Horsens, Denmark on Monday.The 2022 Champions Group is topped by defending champions China. While India defeated Canada 4-1 on the first day, China defeated Australia 5-0 on April 24 and Canada 4-1 on Monday.The Indians did not lose a single set against the lower-ranked Australia. Lakshya Sen Ephraim defeated Stephen Sam 21-14, 21-16 to get the first point for India. US Open champion Ayush Shetty defeated Shrey Dhand 21-8, 21-6. In the men’s first doubles match, Satuk Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Rizki Hidayat and Jack Yu 21-14, 21-16.In third singles, HS Prannoy had an easy 21-11, 21-17 win over Rishi Honda Boupathi. The doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakaronen and MR Arjun beat Andika Ramadiania and Ephraim Stephen Sam 21-12, 21-10 in the final match. Japan and Malaysia are likely to reach the last eight from Group B. While Denmark qualified from Group C, Chinese Taipei and Korea are battling for second place.
