MIA is suing Kid Cudi for $2.8 million USD
MIA was hired as the opener for Kid Cudi’s ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour, which is still going strong today. However, as Rolling Stone reports, the ‘Paper Planes’ singer has alleged that Cudi breached the terms of his contract. He cited the $2.8 million lawsuit as filed in Los Angeles court on May 29.Speaking to PEOPLE about the case, the singer mentioned that Kid Cudi was well aware of his politics and also knew that he wouldn’t stay silent. A statement from the report read: “Kid Cudi’s attempts to silence artistic expression and freedom of speech on his Rebel Ragers tour cannot be questioned. Censorship is something MIA has fought against her entire career.”Calling the firing “unjustified,” the statement added, “Kid Cudi’s sudden and unjustified termination of his performance contract over comments he now labels as ‘offensive’ is a desperate attempt to sell tickets for his sold-out tour. As a result, his false accusations have propelled him into a false appearance based on a false statement from his own words.”“
What happened to MIA and Kid Cudi?
When Kid Cudi and his band hired MIA to play about 33 shows as the opening act for his tour, she was fired last month. The Dallas concert on May 2nd drew criticism from the audience when MIA started talking about her political party and her immigration status, among other things.Comments on the MIA statement that prompted this action by the rapper and his team stated, “I’ve been suspended for a lot of things. I never thought I would be suspended for being an American Republican voter. So I’ve come to meet you all. This is the ‘Don’t Introduce Myself’ tour.” He also called himself an “illegal” and also shared, “Okay, I’m an illegal. Half of my team isn’t here because they didn’t get a visa. I want you to know that.”As a result, Kid Cudi’s band ended their remaining tour dates. The rapper also wrote a post on social media: “After the last couple of shows, I’ve been inundated with messages from fans who were upset by his commercials. This is very disappointing to me, and I will not have anyone on my tour making offensive remarks that upset my fans. Thank you for your understanding.”Kid Cudi kicks off his ‘Rebel Rager’ tour. At the time of writing, neither he nor his team has made a public statement on the matter.
