Viewers are spoiled for choice this week, from fantasy action entertainers to crime thrillers.Notable releases include Suriya’s fantasy action film Karuppu, Sreenath Bhasi’s action thriller Pongala and many more.
‘Karuppu’ starts playing
Suriya’s hit fantasy action drama ‘Karuppu’ has officially made its OTT debut. The film, directed by RJ Balaji, started streaming on Amazon Prime Video on June 12 after enjoying theatrical success.The film is available in its original Tamil version and has also been released in several dubbed languages. The cast includes Trisha Krishnan, RJ Balaji, Shivada, Yogi Babu and Swasika in important roles.Blending fantasy elements with action and emotional storylines, ‘Karuppu’ was Suriya’s biggest comeback after some terrific films in recent years.
‘Pongala’ by Sreenath Bhasi
Malayalam action thriller ‘Pongala’ has also joined the list of new digital releases this week. Directed by Sreenath Bhasi, the film is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.The story unfolds against the backdrop of the coastal belt of Kerala and is based on the events related to the Vypin-Munambam region in the early 2000s. Directed by AB Binil, the film explores the conflicts, power struggles and survival within a fishing community.The cast includes Baburaj, Sampath Ram, Kichu Tellus, Sudheer Karamana, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sminu Sijo and Murugan Martin. Although ‘Pongala’ was not successful at the box office, it is expected to gain a lot of attention after its OTT release.
‘Dridam’ by Shane Nigam
Crime thriller ‘Dridam’ has started OTT on JioHotstar after its release earlier this year. Directed by Martin Joseph, the film stars Shane Nigam.The story follows a police officer whose routine dispatch takes an unexpected turn when a murder case lands in front of him. After finding human remains, he is given a limited time to identify the culprit and solve the mystery. Research is becoming more and more complex. The film also features Dinesh Prabhakar and Saniya Fathima in pivotal roles and is available in multiple languages.
‘Athiradi’ gears up for OTT release
Malayalam action comedy ‘Athiradi’ is gearing up for release on SonyLIV on June 19. The film stars Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in lead roles.Directed by Arun Anirudhan, the story revolves around an enthusiastic college student who is determined to bring about a campus festival. His efforts soon ignite a rivalry with an ex-gangster who has chosen a different path in life. The film also has an amazing cameo appearance. ‘Athiradi’ received rave reviews and was a superhit.
‘Kenatha Kanom’
Yogi Babu’s Tamil comedy drama ‘Kenatha Kanom’ will start airing on JioHotstar from June 16. The film mixes comedy, mystery and social commentary through a village-based story. Set in a drought-stricken region, the narrative follows residents struggling to overcome a severe water crisis. The search for a solution eventually leads to a surprising discovery that changes the direction of the story.Yogi Babu plays Manivasagam, a temple sculptor known for his humor and flamboyant personality.
