Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut He reveals that his parents were shocked after watching the breakthrough film Gangster, admitting that their reaction left him deeply hurt. The actor, who is currently promoting his next film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, shares that it was only after he received one. National Award that his family began to appreciate his achievements.
‘I was so heartbroken’
Speaking at a promotional interaction, Kangana said her family viewed the film industry with suspicion and believed it had been influenced by the underworld for a long time. Despite his growing success, his parents did not convince him about his career choice.Recalling his response to Gangster, Kangana said, “They weren’t too happy with what I was doing, but they knew I would figure it out myself. After Gangster, my father didn’t even give me an answer. When I asked my mother, she said, ‘Nahi hamara samajh mein thoda ye hai ki ap chhotey bhi ho, underage bhi ho… iss tarah se scene aap se karwa liye (You are a minor and you were forced to do these scenes)’”.The actor said that he was surprised that his parents focused only on certain scenes rather than his performance.“So I replied that you only saw those scenes in this movie? I was so heartbroken that they perceived that movie that way, because they were thinking about what society would think. After that, I thought that I never expect an opinion of my movies from my parents, because they have never seen a movie,” he added.
Amitabh Bachchan’s letter changed his perspective
Kangana also recalled receiving appreciation from Amitabh Bachchan after her acclaimed performance in Queen and how he helped her understand the difference between artistic appreciation and her father’s worldview.“When Mr. Bachchan sent me a beautiful letter about his performance in Queen, I thought how can Mr. Bachchan perceive it, my father cannot perceive it…and I cannot hold a grudge against my father because he is not an artist. His work is different,” he said.He added that things changed dramatically after receiving national recognition.“Then when I got the National Award, they were very happy. That was the turning point for them, I got the award from the President of India.”Kangana won her first National Award for Best Actress in Fashion. She later won three Best Actress awards for Queen, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi and Panga.
