The filmmaker is expanding the story in an episodic format for a digital platform. In a chat with The Week, Johar spoke about the film’s reception and the reactions it caused. She said: “We’re actually adapting it into a long-form series. The root of that film, of course, was that it came out in 2006 to very polarized responses. A lot of people came up to me and asked if I was unwell after that film, because they said, ‘How do you accept infidelity?’ And I said, ‘How do you support something that’s already so exhausted’?”

He also recalled a theatrical moment that stayed with him.

“I still remember watching the film with the audience a day before its release. There was a very traditional couple watching the film, and there’s a moment when Shah Rukh and Rani walk into a hotel room. The lady, who had come with her husband, turned to him dramatically and said very calmly, ‘It’s a dream sequence.’ After five minutes, they realized it wasn’t a dream sequence, and then they got up and left. And then I realized that we are in such a polarized audience space, that people judge what happens in their homes, they forget, they brush it under the rug, but they don’t want to see it on celluloid, even though it’s probably reality in their home.”He also added about the series, “So we’re doing a series, a long-form show for one platform, I can’t give you too many details at this point, but it’s coming out soon.”Karan Johar also confirmed his talk show comeback in the same interaction. When asked, he said, “This year, Diwali, season 9.”
