Filmmaker Prashanth Neel has shared new details about NTR starrer ‘Dragon’. ‘Dragon’ set against an authentic historical backdrop
According to the filmmaker, ‘Dragoi’ is the most realistic attempt to date. The story is set in the late 1960s and revolves around real historical locations and events.Prashanth Neel said, “This is more detailed than the stories I have told before. This is set in Mumbai and Kolkata, the cities are real, it’s a story I built around the opium trade, the heroin trade and it existed during the time of the British and after they left too, I’m building an arena where the real drama takes place, it’s a very realistic attempt, 1967.”The narrative is said to explore the illegal trade in opium and heroin at the time. The story unfolds in the regions close to the borders of India, China and Bhutan.

‘Dragon’ is being described as an epic action saga with emotionally intense moments spread across different timelines. Jr. Apart from NTR, veteran actor Anil Kapoor also plays an important role in the film and his character was teased at the end of the teaser. Malayalam actor Biju Menon also plays a major role in the cast.

Earlier, Prashanth Neel spoke about NTR’s role in Dragon and described it as one of the darkest characters he has essayed so far.According to the filmmaker, the role required courage from the actor due to its intense emotional and psychological depth.“This is probably one of the most difficult decisions NTR has had to make as an actor. The character, Luger, is much darker than anything I’ve written before, and for a star of his stature to accept such a risky role is incredibly brave,” he said.The director also revealed that the team spent several years shaping the emotional reasoning behind the character’s actions.

Prashanth Neel shared in an interview that it took the makers almost three years to fully develop the character’s emotional arc before starting the project.“It took us almost three years to get to the emotional reasons why this character does what he does. When everything finally fell into place, he just said, ‘Let’s do it,’ even though he knew how challenging and unexpected it would be for his audience,” he added.‘Dragon’ will hit theaters on June 11, 2027.
