The letter given to the star after the end of 10 seasons of ‘Friends’ in 2004 has been officially retired, Heritage Auctions has confirmed to The Independent.

The handwritten note offered a rare glimpse into Aniston and Perry’s off-screen friendship and also appeared to refer to the actress’ struggles with drug addiction. The handwritten note read: “Matty! Oh my God… How am I doing [I] to live without your light in my life every day? I know that sometimes the light has dimmed and there were moments when I was too scared to turn it off all at once. You always come back.“Thank you for choosing to live this life. You have so much to give and not just to the masses with your talent, but as a friend and husband and father,” he wrote.“We’ve come a long way baby. We met at that bar whose name I can’t remember since that night… Anyway… I love you my dear friend.”“I’m so proud of you and I’m always there for you. You might not think to call me, but I’m always here. This has been quite a while. [sic] we shared and I really appreciate that and you. I love you”.

The note also featured a written poem that read: “Love / and trusting your feelings / and finding your center / and being yourself / and following your heart / and knowing the way / and giving to others…”.The poem ended with the last three lines: “And loving the questions / and embracing the mystery / and begin again.”Aniston signed the poem with her heart.

About the auction

According to the report, the handwritten letter was allegedly kept inside an album containing photos from the actors’ private Friends party in 2004, a memento that Perry kept over the years.The auction, scheduled for June 5, was organized to benefit the Matthew Perry Foundation, a nonprofit that helps people with addiction. The cause held particular significance for Perry, who has been open about his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse.Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom, died in October 2023 at the age of 54 at his home in Los Angeles.
