The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced summer vacation for schools falling under the summer zone of Jammu division as severe heat wave continues in many districts. The decision, which applies to both public and private schools, comes amid growing concerns over the health and safety of students attending classes during extreme weather conditions.In parts of Jammu region, including Samba and Jammu, temperatures have crossed 43 degrees Celsius in recent days disrupting normal life and increasing heat-related hazards. Officials said the move was taken to protect school children from prolonged exposure to excessive heat during the day.
Announcement of holiday schedule in schools
Education Minister Sakina Eto shared the announcement through a post on X and said the revised schedule has been prepared keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions.According to the government notification summer vacation for primary classes will start from 1st June 2026, vacation for students studying in class 6th to 12th will start from 8th June 2026.In his statement, the minister said, “In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the summer vacation for schools falling under the summer zone of Jammu division will commence from 01.06.2026 for primary classes and from 08.06.2026 for students of classes 6 to 12.
Heat wave emphasizes precautions.
The ongoing heat wave has significantly affected daily activities in several parts of Jammu region, officials said. The administration noted that continuing school operations during extreme summer conditions could pose health risks to students, especially young children.Authorities have also advised parents and students to be cautious during vacations and avoid unnecessary sun exposure during afternoon hours. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and take safety precautions as high temperatures are expected to continue in the coming days.
