David Miller has admitted to feeling disappointed after being left out of Delhi Capitals’ playing XI for the last two matches in IPL 2026, but the veteran South African batsman insists he fully understands the demands of the team combination in the tournament.Speaking ahead of Delhi Capitals’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi, Miller was benched again and the result remained the same for hosts Delhi as they lost their 5th home game in a row. Finn Allen’s century helped KKR to their fourth win of the season. Miller admitted that missing out is never easy, especially for a player who has been a regular in the IPL since 2012. However, he maintained that the franchise’s overseas balance and strategic mix are preferred.
“Obviously it’s disappointing. You always want to play every game, but that’s the IPL. The structure of only four foreign players in the XI means the combination becomes really important for the team,” Miller said.DC have opted for Pathum Nissanka at the top of the order, leaving out Miller in place of foreign pacers Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi. Despite the disappointment, the veteran batsman said he was determined to play a positive role in the squad.“I have been around for a long time. This is not my first IPL, so I understand the makeup of the teams. My focus is to give positive feedback to the squad, support, and contribute whatever I can to the team,” he added.Miller also stressed that he’ll be ready if another chance comes later in the season.“I just want to be ready and prepare well,” he said. That’s what players love to do, whether the opportunity comes or not.The 2026 season has been tough for Miller so far. In seven innings, he has scored only 123 runs at a strike rate of 146.42. While he has been unbeaten four times, his best contribution was a 20-ball 41* earlier in the season against the Gujarat Titans, an innings remembered as much for a controversial missed single as for a late flourish.
