The development came after Pant was appointed captain after his record-breaking move in the franchise. However, as a batsman and captain, the performance did not live up to expectations. In IPL 2025, LSG finished seventh on the points table under Pant, while the wicketkeeper-batsman endured a disappointing campaign with the bat. Pant scored 269 runs that season at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.17. His unbeaten 118 against RCB in LSG’s last league game was the only highlight in an otherwise unbeaten season. The struggles continued in IPL 2026 as LSG finished bottom of the table under Pant’s captaincy. Pant once again failed to be consistent with the bat, scoring 312 runs in 14 matches at an average of 28.36 and a strike rate of 138.05, with only one fifty-plus score in the entire season.
