New Delhi: A red hot KL Rahul produced one of the most extraordinary innings in IPL history, guiding Delhi Capitals to a massive 264/2 to an unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.On a sweltering 41-degree afternoon, Rahul hammered the PBKS bowling attack, hitting 16 fours and nine sixes at a staggering strike rate of 226 in a 67-ball masterclass. His innings is now the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in IPL history, beating several elite names, and ranks third overall. Chris Gayle’s 175* and Brendon McCullum’s 158*.
Rahul became only the third batsman in IPL history to cross the 150-run mark, and the second Indian player to score more than 150 runs in men’s T20Is after Tilak Verma. The innings also produced his fastest IPL century, bettering his previous best of 56 off just 47 balls.He was ably supported by Nitish Rana, who scored 91, as the duo put on a stunning stand of 220 off just 95 balls – now the second-highest partnership in IPL history. Their onslaught led DC to their highest ever total, a staggering 162 runs in 11-20 overs, one of the most explosive death over performances the league has seen.
