LR: Abhishek Sharma, Riran Prag and Romi Bhandar

The Indian Premier League 2026 season has delivered high-octane cricket and a fierce play-off race, but it has also been marred by a series of disciplinary problems, with several players and officials fined for breaching the code of conduct. With 46 out of 70 league games completed and Punjab Kings topping the standings with 13 points from 9 matches, the focus is not just on performance but on-field and off-field behaviour. Eight players and staff members have so far faced sanctions ranging from fines to demerit points for various offences.A growing list of violationsThe disciplinary list started early in the tournament (Match 6) when Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee for using an audible obscenity during a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.Off-field conduct also came under scrutiny when Rajasthan Royals team manager Ravinder Singh Bhandar (Rumi Bhandar) was fined Rs 1 lakh for violating strict IPL protocol (Match 16) after he was caught using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.Tempers flared again in Match 18 when Nitish Rana, representing Delhi Capitals, was booked for an altercation with the fourth umpire over Tristan Stubbs’ request for a glove change, resulting in a fine and a demerit point.Similarly, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Tim David was fined for briefly refusing to give the ball back to the umpires during a match against Mumbai Indians (Match 20), an act deemed as disobeying the officials’ instructions.Aggression and emotional outbursts on the fieldThe celebrations and reactions on the field also went overboard in several instances. Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Nandre Berger was fined after his animated celebration of Rishabh Pant’s dismissal was deemed provocative (match 32).Kolkata Knight Riders young batsman Angkrish Raghavnshi faced a penalty to take out his frustration after a controversial dismissal for obstructing the field – after hitting his bat and throwing his helmet.Perhaps the most talked about incident involved Rajasthan Royals captain Ryan Prag, who was fined for using vape in the dressing room, an act that violates Indian law and brought the game into disrepute during the 40-over match against Punjab Kings.Delhi Capitals’ Kyle Jamieson also received a warning and a demerit point for sending off youngster Vibhu Suryavanshi in Match 43 against Rajasthan Royals. The captain is under scrutiny for slow over-rates.In addition to individual incidents, the high rate of violations has added another layer of concern. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined twice, while Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans), Rutoraj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians) and Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders) have also been fined.
