New Delhi: Surya Kumar Yadav He is likely to play for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in a T20 match against the touring Ugandan team in Mumbai on May 30.Uganda is currently touring Mumbai for four ODIs and four T20Is. Uganda swept the four-match ODI series 4-0 against MCA Colts XI.T20 matches are being played against four different teams of the T20 Mumbai League starting from June 1.“He is part of the team so there is a possibility of him playing,” MCA secretary Anmesh Khanvelkar told reporters, quoted by news agency PTI.“He is the Indian captain and whenever he plays against any team, it’s a morale booster for any team and it’s going to be a good cricketing experience,” added Khanvelkar.The match between Triumph Knights Mumbai North East and Uganda is expected to be held at the MCA ground in Bandra Kurla Complex.Surya Kumar was considered one of the standout players in the first edition of the T20 Mumbai League in 2018. He was retained as an icon player by Triumph Knights ahead of the auction for the fourth edition of the tournament.MCA president Ajinkya Naik said ICC chairman Jay Shah played a role in the deal with Cricket Uganda.“Under Jay Shah’s leadership, he requested us to host the Ugandan cricket team and we thought it would be a great honor to host the national team here in Mumbai and for our Mumbai players to showcase against the national team,” said Naik.“The Ugandan team can come here and play matches, and whenever MCA needs to go and play in the country during our season or even when we have off-season.”Nike said the arrangement would help players outside the senior set-up get exposure.“Players who are playing for the senior team or even the Indian team, have exposure. But those who are in the second or third line – MCA’s bench strength – need exposure. That is why we are (also) traveling to the UK this year for the men’s and women’s teams, and that is an additional opportunity.”
