Manpreet Singh Sunday equaled former India captain Dilip Turki’s record of 412 international caps, but the milestone came after a 2-3 loss to the Netherlands in the FIH Men’s Pro League.The veteran midfielder achieved a historic milestone during India’s match against the hosts, becoming only the second Indian male hockey player to play 412 international matches. He is also the only active player with over 400 senior international caps.The Netherlands took an early lead in the third minute through Miles Bickens. India responded six minutes later when Dalpreet Singh leveled it at 1-1.Koen Bijn restored the Dutch lead in the 23rd minute, but India fought back again, with Sukhjeet Singh leveling the score in the 33rd minute.However, Tamjan Rienga scored in the 40th minute to put the Netherlands ahead for the third time, and India were denied another equaliser.The defeat marred what was otherwise a historic day for Manpreet, who now shares the Indian record for most international caps with Dilip Turki.Congratulating Manpreet on this achievement, Hockey India President Dilip Turki said, “I congratulate Manpreet on reaching this milestone, which is a remarkable achievement and reflects his dedication, commitment and consistency over the years.“I wish him all the best for his upcoming matches and hope to see him play on many more occasions.
