Police in the UK said Friday that officers were trying to contact the Oscar-winning actor by Helen Mirren and “reviewing” video footage showing “the subject of anti-Semitic verbal abuse.”Footage of the incident, which London’s Metropolitan Police said took place in the British capital last year, has been released online. It shows Mirren and her husband being approached by someone filming with a camera, then calls her an “evil Zionist” followed by a boom saying she was “very happy that the Palestinian homes are gone.”“We are aware of a video circulating online showing a man and a woman being subjected to anti-Semitic verbal abuse,” a police spokesman said.“Officers are reviewing the footage and attempting to contact the victims to determine whether they wish to report the incident.”The actress was filmed one night, crossing the street with her filmmaker husband Taylor Hackford. The video, a man filming the couple, confronted Israel-Palestine visions. In the clip released on X, the unidentified man approaches the Oscar winner and shouts from behind the camera: “Helen Mirren is there, an avowed Zionist. You said that Israel should last forever because of the Holocaust. And she was very happy that the Palestinian homes were gone.”“You posted. You’re a nasty Zionist,” he said before walking away. While the exact date of the recording is unclear, The Times reported that the footage is believed to be older and was originally shared in November. The force said it had made more than 90 hate crime arrests since the end of March, amid a surge in anti-Semitic incidents in Britain in recent years, escalating the conflict in the Middle East. The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism has condemned the “appalling” abuse Mirren suffered, saying the perpetrator is “pro-Palestinian”.
