A video of Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari has gone viral on social media, in which he said that girls do not need education and should stay in their homes. The clip sparked a political controversy after Tiwari took over as the education minister of Bihar on May 9.In the circulating clip, a reporter can also be heard saying that education is a girl’s right, to which the minister replied, “What is the need for education? The daughters of our homes are our strength, they are the basis of our prosperity, and when Modi ji stands for women’s empowerment, why do these daughters need to come to the streets?”The remarks quickly drew criticism. The viral video was widely shared by political leaders, party handles and social media users. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reposted the clip and criticized the BJP, while social media accounts of Congress’ youth wing Indian Youth Congress and Aam Aadmi Party also shared the video.“That’s why I hate BJP…BJP believes that educating girls is wrong, if you don’t believe it, listen to this statement from their Education Minister. Not only girls’ education, BJP’s thinking is also against good education for Dalits. In fact, they are against giving quality education to every child,” Sisodia wrote on X.
