With filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan on an intense house tour for her YouTube channel, the house leaves an immediate impression. As they step inside, Farah remarks, “Guys, I haven’t seen a house like this in Lokhandwala. No Lokhandwala, I haven’t seen a house like this in Bombay. You’ll feel like you’ve come to London.” The interiors offer a sense of transportability, where every decorative element adds to the larger story rather than enhancing the space. However, Suman brings the focus back to what really matters. Reflecting on the essence of a house, he says: “Tell me, even if you make a nice house, even if you make a big house, a house is made by the family.” He also added, “Whether you get a small house or a big house, it doesn’t matter.”

The living room has it all with comfortable seating, an ornate fireplace-style console, and layered decor. Candles, table lamps and wall lights create a warm and cozy feeling. Items such as bust sculptures, vases and frame work are neatly placed, and well organized, giving the room a gallery feel. Large glass doors open onto the balcony, connecting the interior space with the exterior. One of the main highlights is the detailed chess board, which looks more like a collectible than a game. Talking about what influenced her design choices, Suman says, “Because of Alka… somewhere, I don’t know, inside, there was a great desire every time we went to England to have such a house as our own.” She also points out that living with someone who has a great eye for design can shape your sensibility, saying, “Yes, you learn a few things while you’re with Alka, because she’s a designer and has great taste.“

Every item in the house seems to have a story. Referring to the antique chess board in the living room, she says, “We got it from New York…it was very expensive.
