Esther Anil once ‘Drishyam’ continued to define his life years after its release. The actor, who played Anu in the 2013 Malayalam thriller, said fans still knew him as “Drishyam papa” even when he moved to Mumbai for college.

According to Gulf News, Esther was just 12 years old when she played George Kutty’s young daughter in “Drishyam”. The film was a huge hit and was later remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Sinhalese and Chinese.Talking about life after the film, he said, “The reason I moved to Mumbai was to live my own life and be away from the public glare, but not a day goes by without someone recognizing Drishyam as a father.”He added, “I am often surprised that residents of Mumbai recognize me and come to me to confirm their doubts. It is the same story in college.”

Esther also recalled how her roommate found her face familiar before revealing her film connection. “He couldn’t help but wonder why he found my face familiar. Then I told him that I had played the lead in ‘Oolu’,” he said.Looking back on her early years as an actress, Esther said she didn’t fully understand it while shooting ‘Drishyam’. “I followed the director’s orders. I understood the story only while watching the film in a theatre,” he said.He also remembered it at work Mohanlal in ‘Oru Naal Varum’ and said, “Lal uncle was a fun experience.”Esther later appeared in ‘Johaar’ and was part of Santosh Sivan’s ‘Jack and Jill’. His association with “Drishyam”, however, remains the role most remembered by audiences.
