Jeethu Joseph’s “Drishyam 3” brings back Georgekutty played by Mohanlal for another emotionally intense chapter in the thriller franchise.The mystery drama takes place several years after the events of ‘Drishyam 2’. This time, the story focuses not only on external threats, but also on Georgekutty’s growing emotional exhaustion and psychological fears.
Georgekutty’s transformation
Georgekutty is now a successful film producer. The film, inspired by his hidden past, has been a huge commercial success. His family now has financial stability and lives in a bigger house. The family tries to move on
Rani, played by Meena, wants the family to move beyond their painful memories and start a peaceful new chapter. Anu, played by Esther Anil, comes across as a much more mature and confident young woman compared to the previous films. The caring conversation about an inter-caste marriage issue and the family’s reaction shows how much Esther’s character has matured in the third part.Meanwhile, Anju, portrayed by Ansiba Hassan, slowly recovers from her trauma through therapy and prepares for marriage.A major emotional thread in the story is Georgekutty trying to arrange Anju’s marriage. However, rumors surrounding Varun’s old case continue to tarnish the family’s reputation, with several proposals collapsing.
Old enemies return with new plans
Later, in a shocking twist, it is revealed that Varun’s parents Geetha Prabhakar and Prabhakar, played by Asha Sharath and Siddique, are still out for revenge.Another twist comes when ex-cop Sahadevan, portrayed by Kalabhavan Shajohn, joins them along with IG Thomas Bastin, played by Murali Gopy.Together, they carefully devise a plan to implicate Anju in a contrived crime. Their real intention is to psychologically break Georgekutty and finally reveal the truth behind Varun’s death.Although Georgekutty senses danger approaching, he struggles to fully understand the nature of the conspiracy.While Georgekutty was portrayed as a man with a plan in the previous installments, in this installment 3, he is said to be someone who is finding the traps set in his path and covering them at the same time.
Georgekutty makes another shocking decision
The climax takes a dramatic turn after the antagonists execute their plan against Anju.Georgekutty discovers the conspiracy and once again makes a morally disturbing decision to protect his family. To legally save Anju, he manipulates the crime scene and even injures his own daughter non-fatally so that she appears as a victim instead of a suspect.After fear, secrets and survival, emotionally exhausted, Georgekutty finally approaches Prabhakar with a surprising proposal.
Does the ending hint at ‘Drishyam 4’?
Towards the end Georgekutty confesses to Varun’s murder and accepts his imprisonment. However, he demands one condition in return: his family must not be persecuted again.Georgekutty is eventually arrested, leaving his family devastated but temporarily safe. However, the final scene completely changes the emotional tone. When Prabhakar asks Geetha if she is finally satisfied, Anju coldly reveals that she wants him to suffer for her son’s death.The ending leaves the conflict unresolved and the danger surrounding Georgekutty’s family is not yet over and surely opens the door for more installments.
