Indian audiences are still waiting for ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ to hit JioHotstar, but overseas audiences are already watching a very different film. Aditya Dhar‘s hit spy thriller began streaming internationally on Netflix from May 14, eight weeks after its theatrical release, under the title ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge – Raw and Uncut’. And it really is gross. Viewers who have seen the Netflix version have taken to social media to document the differences, and the list is long: restored gore, uncensored gore, extended action sequences, and at least one scene that dares to suggest a theatrical cut. Here’s what’s new, restored, or different about the uncut OTT version.
‘Dhurandhar 2’ OTT Release: India vs International – What’s Different?
According to Hindustan Times, Netflix’s international version of ‘Raw and Uncut’ started streaming on May 14. In India, the film will be released on JioHotstar, but the Indian streaming version is expected to reflect the CBFC-approved theatrical cut, without additional footage. In an ongoing IP rights case, the makers of the film informed the Bombay High Court that the OTT release in India would not happen before mid-May, although the exact date has not been officially announced. For Indian fans who want the uncut experience, the international Netflix version remains the only option for now.
Graphic violence fully restored
The film’s two most brutal sequences, which were cut by the CBFC for its theatrical release, are shown in their full form in the Raw and Uncut cuts. There is a moment in the opening sequence that shows Jaskirat’s rage when he hits a man with a hammer. In the theatrical version, the shot was cut before full effect; The Netflix version shows uninterrupted. Likewise, in the Muridke climax, when Ranveer Singhcharacter crushes a man’s head with a cement block, the sequence no longer cuts. Also, in the Lyari Gang War episode, a sequence unfolds of Jaskirat acting as Hamza under his cover identity—hitting a man with a fireball compared to what plays out in cinemas. One of the more unusual criticisms of the theatrical cut was the selective silencing of verbal abuse and profanity, a choice that seemed inappropriate given the film’s vulnerable tone. The Raw and Uncut version removes this censorship: every exaggeration is heard, and the subtitles translate the dialogue correctly, without washing it.
More competitions have been added to Lyra in the Gang War section
In the theatrical version, what many saw as the most disturbing sequence: Uzair Baloch’s beheading of Arshad Pappu. That scene continues in its entirety in the Netflix version. But the uncut cut adds more beheadings to Lyari in the Gang War episode, including a shot of gangster Hamza beheading himself with a shutter of a shop, a sequence completely absent from what Indian audiences saw in cinemas.
The severed head soccer scene
Perhaps the most discussed addition to the Raw and Uncut version is the deliberate omission of the theatrical cut from showing. The moment when Uzair Baloch plays football with the severed head of Arshad Pappu after his death isn’t just urban folklore in the context of the Lyari gang wars, it’s a scene that was teased by the film’s trailer, only for the theatrical cut to be pulled back at the crucial moment. The Netflix version shows. Uzair, played by Danish Pandor, is seen playing football with Arshad’s head cut off. The scene also includes an additional shot of Uzai at the end of the sequence – footage that appeared in the trailer but did not make it to cinemas.
Jaskirat’s reaction to Pinda’s death
One of the most emotionally important scenes in the film: Pinda’s death at the hands of Jaskirat also plays differently in the OTT cut. Viewers have noted that Ranveer Singh’s on-stage reaction has changed significantly from the theatrical version: calmer, more controlled and arguably more unsettling than the version that played in Indian cinemas.
