The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has announced remedial classes for students of classes 9, 10 and 12 as well as the summer vacation schedule for government schools.According to an official circular issued on Friday, the summer vacation in government schools will be from May 11 to June 30. Also, remedial classes will be held from May 11 to May 23 depending on teacher availability and school facilities.The DoE said these sessions aim to reinforce key concepts and improve learning outcomes for students. The circular said that the classes will be held in the morning hours to ensure better concentration and learning environment.
Class timings and structure
As per the notification, the therapeutic classes will run from 7.30 am to 10.30 am. Teachers will report to school at 7.20 am and stay till 11 am. There will be three periods of one hour each day.In double-shift schools, treatment sessions will be held in separate wings so as not to disrupt normal work.
Focus on core subjects.
For class 9 and 10, focus will be mainly on science and mathematics. However, school heads are given the flexibility to include other subjects based on academic needs, analysis of results and availability of teachers.“For classes 9 and 10, the focus will be on science and mathematics, though school heads may choose other subjects based on academic needs, analysis of results and availability of subject teachers,” the notification said.For class 12, the choice of subjects will be decided by the school head according to the needs of the students.
Instructions for Schools
The DoE has directed the heads of schools to prepare the timetable in advance and submit it to the concerned Deputy Director of Education (DDE) before the commencement of vacations. Schools have also been asked to inform students and parents through available communication channels.Attendance during remedial classes will be marked online, and students will be required to wear school uniform. Parental consent is also mandatory for participation.
Support and monitoring system
The circular said that the library facilities will remain open for self-study and book issue during the reformation period. Teachers are directed to focus on improving the performance of students.Schools have also been directed to ensure basic amenities like clean drinking water for students attending classes. Guest and contract teachers may be engaged if required.Regular teachers appointed for remedial classes will be given earned leave, while guest teachers will be paid as usual.The DoE has further directed the Deputy Directors of Education at the district and zonal levels to ensure proper implementation of the program and conduct daily visits to at least two schools conducting remedial classes.
