CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Girls outperform boys again, outpacing them by nearly 7 percentage points

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the Class 12 Result 2026 on the official website cbse.gov.in. This year around 17,80,365 students registered for class 12 board exams, while 17,68,968 appeared. Out of them 15,07,109 students cleared the exam successfully.At the same time, 1,63,800 students were placed in the compartment category, which constitutes 9.26 per cent of all the candidates appearing for the examinations. These students will now be eligible to appear in the compartment exams to improve their results. Students who have appeared in the exam can visit the official website, DigiLocker or UMANG app to download the scorecards. Girls have outdone boys once again. Girls’ pass percentage was recorded at 88.86%, sharply ahead of boys at 82.13%, creating a gender gap of 6.73 percentage points.

Girls maintain academic superiority.

According to CBSE data, girls continued to outperform boys by a wide margin, though their pass percentage dropped from 91.64 per cent last year to 88.86 per cent this year. A decline was also seen among boys, falling from 85.70 percent in 2025 to 82.13 percent in 2026.The Board’s data shows that the performance gap between girls and boys has remained substantial, underscoring the continued academic dominance of girls in senior secondary examinations.

Transgender candidates once again achieved 100% pass percentage.

These statistics come at a time when education experts have repeatedly pointed to changing trends in the classroom, better participation of girls in higher secondary education and strong consistency in board examination performance of female students.

No list of toppers has been announced.

CBSE has not released an official merit list, saying the decision is aimed at preventing unhealthy academic competition among students.However, the board said that merit certificates will be issued to the top 0.1% students in each subject through DigiLocker.Class 12 results are considered important for undergraduate admissions to universities in India and abroad, making gender-wise performance data a closely watched indicator every year.
