CBSE admits possible marking errors, opens access to Class XII answer scripts from May 19
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has acknowledged the possibility of errors during the evaluation of answer sheets for Class 12 board exams, with Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj saying errors may occur while evaluating around 1.25 crore answer scripts annually.Speaking to ANI after the declaration of CBSE Class XII results, Bhardwaj said students will be allowed to access copies of their examined answer scripts from May 19 to May 22 through the board’s official process. The Class XII results declared earlier this week recorded an overall pass percentage of 85.20 percent.
CBSE says that students can check the checked answer sheets.In an interview to ANI, Bhardwaj said the board follows a transparent evaluation process and has mechanisms in place to remove any discrepancies pointed out by students.“We review around 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a chance that there will be a mistake,” said Bhardwaj.Students will be able to get copies of their checked answer scripts first and scrutinize them carefully before applying for further verification or correction, he added.“CBSE is an institution that works in the best interest of students, and we work with complete transparency,” he said.Applications for re-examination will start from May 26.According to the CBSE controller, students identifying discrepancies in their answer sheets can apply for re-examination or correction between May 26 and May 29.“If any error is detected, and if our panel of experts confirms that there is indeed an error, then the error will be corrected immediately,” Bhardwaj told ANI.He added that if students qualify for higher scores after verification, correct marks will be given.Marks may increase or decrease after verification.CBSE also clarified that during the validation process, the revised marks may increase or decrease based on the findings of the expert panel.“It is important to clarify here that if error correction results in a lower score, the marks of the student will be reduced accordingly,” Bhardwaj told ANI during an interview.The Board has advised the students to go through their evaluated answer sheets carefully before applying for re-evaluation or correction of discrepancy within the notified timelines.
