Gujarati cinema is gearing up for a major moment as ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ is all set to make its market debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film will be screened at the Cannes market, one of the world’s most significant platforms for film promotion, acquisition and international distribution. He is the director of the film Ankit Sakhiya.

The authors presented a special invitation poster with the message “You are invited”. The artwork describes Laalo as the “most divine Gujarati film” ever. The visually striking design features a silhouette crowned with peacock feathers, a symbolic reference to Lord Krishna. The authors wrote: “This is not just a performance, it is a celebration of culture, film and faith. Join us at the market screening of Laalo – श्री क्रिष्न सदा साहीते at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival as we bring the spirit of Gujarat to the global stage. We would be honored to celebrate this special moment with you.”
Cannes 2026 starts on May 12
The 79th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival begins on May 12 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on the French Riviera. This year’s edition is attracting special attention due to its strong Indian presence in various sections and events. Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia, who won the Grand Prix in 2024 with All We Imagine as Light, will be president of the jury for the 65th Cannes Critics’ Week.
Indian celebrities to make their presence felt
According to News18, “Along with Tara Sutaria, Ammy Virk will also be making her debut at the film festival. While Tara will represent a brand, Ammy Virk will be seen alongside Roopinder Kaur Gill of her Punjabi film, Chardikala.” Tara Sutaria and Ammy Virk are among the Indian personalities making their Cannes debut this year. Ammy will attend the screening of her Punjabi film Chardikala, accompanied by Roopinder Kaur Gill.
Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha join the Festival
Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha will also be at Cannes 2026 according to reports. Anurag has a long association with the festival. His films, including ‘Udaan’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Kennedy’, have previously been screened at director’s fortnight and midnight screenings. With ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ heading to the Cannes market, Gujarati cinema will achieve a proud and historic global milestone.
