The District Attorney’s Office said, “This DUI case will be handled according to our standard protocols. When there is no prior DUI history, low blood alcohol level, and no accidents or injuries, prosecutors typically offer what is known as ‘wet negligence.’“This law allows a defendant to plead guilty to reckless driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”As part of the deal, Spears was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered not to possess drugs without a valid prescription.Britney Spears’ reps react to DUI arrestIn a statement issued to PEOPLE, a rep for Spears said, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.” The statement continued: “Britney will take the appropriate steps and abide by the law and hopefully this can be the first step in a long overdue change in Britney’s life.
