Blake Lively Justin Baldoni Disputes California's Survivors Protection Act

Victoria Burke, the architect of California’s pro-life law, has publicly lashed out Blake LivelyLegal strategy in dispute with ‘It Ends With Us’ director and co-star Justin Baldoni. Reacting to the actress’ latest filing, Burke, on ‘The Megyn Kelly Show’, discussed her concerns about the way the law has become part of the high-profile legal battle. In a clip shared by the official handle, Burke was asked, “Is Blake Lively completely AVOIDING the purpose of California’s Survivor Law in her claim for legal fees?” With this, he shared: “You nailed the concern of most survivors, that a defamation lawsuit is often used to silence them, because someone on the receiving end realizes that it could cost them five, six or seven figures for many years to defend, and it’s always cheaper to keep quiet. So the concern was, if you have to go ahead and defend yourself and you prevail, and you show that you had no malice, you would recover your attorney’s fees and damages.’“Also, I thought the goal was to ask lawyers to take on these very difficult cases, so that’s been my main concern with the bill.”Burke, who authored the legislation, said the law was designed to protect survivors who come forward with allegations of sexual assault, harassment and discrimination. “I never thought my bill would be in the eye of a story, with all eyes on it,” he wrote in a statement shared publicly by megynkelly.com.Taking a swipe at the actor and his team, he added, “As the architect of the bill, I firmly believe in the constitutionality of my bill. [and] his team Frankly, I don’t think the judge should award attorneys’ fees in this case.’Burke also argued that the focus of the law has shifted away from the survivors it was designed to protect. “I was worried that this was just going to be a PR campaign for her, and it wasn’t going to be about survivors anymore. I didn’t want my bill to turn into the Met Gala,” she said.Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni was back in the news after the actor said she suffered retaliation after making sexual harassment claims over the making of the 2024 film ‘It Ends With Us’. Attorney Ellyn Garofalo, who represents Baldoni, told U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman that Lively was trying to make it “at the end of the jury trial” through a request for attorney’s fees when the deal was reached before the May trial.
