After entertaining audiences in theatres, Priyadarshan’s Bangla horror comedy Bhooth is gearing up for its digital release. The title Akshay Kumarthe film hit theaters on April 16 and received mixed reviews while managing a respectable box office.The film will start streaming on Netflix from June 12. Announcing the release on social media, the platform wrote, “Zor zor se bolke sabko dara do (side eye emoji) Bhooth Bangla mein jald entry hogi (bat and blast emojis) (scream and freak everyone, you’ll be entering Bhooth Bangla soon) Watch Bhooth Bangla, June on Netflix, out.”The announcement sparked excitement among fans, many of whom expressed their desire to watch the film again from the comfort of their own homes. “I look forward to seeing you again,” one user commented. Another wrote: “Finally the wait is over.” Several fans also asked about the dubbed versions in South Indian languages. Hope the VFX looks better on Netflix.”Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla is backed by Akshay Kumar, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films. It features Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi.According to trade portal Sacnilk, the film earned ₹181.93 crore in India and ₹269.22 crore worldwide in its 55-day theatrical run.The story revolves around siblings Arjun (Akshay Kumar) and Meera (Mithila Palkar), who inherit an ancestral mansion. Their lives take a strange turn when Arjun unknowingly chooses a supposedly cursed property as his sister’s destination wedding venue. The palace is believed to be haunted by a sinister entity called Vadhusur, known for kidnapping brides and preventing weddings in the surrounding village. As the wedding festivities begin, a series of supernatural and chaotic events occur.In its review, HT described the film as a mix of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Shaitaan and Stree, calling it “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 + Shaitaan + Stree = Bhooth Bangla”.The film also marked the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, the duo responsible for some beloved comedies Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), De Dana Dan (2009) and Khaliyaa (2007), De Dana Dan (2009) (2010e) and 2010etha.The film-actor duo has already wrapped up another project, Haiwaan, an adaptation of Mohanlal’s acclaimed Malayalam thriller Oppam. There will also be a movie Saif Ali Khan and is expected to hit theaters in August.
