The Tamil film industry is mourning the loss of one of its legendary filmmakers, Bharathirajawho passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. Fans and other prominent figures from the industry have expressed their grief, and actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Bharathiraja’s residence Vijay visited Neelangarai.

CM Vijay visited Bharathiraja’s residence to pay his last respects and paid tribute to the filmmaker. His official message on X (formerly Twitter) reads: “Honored Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. S. Joseph Vijay visited the residence of late Director Imayam Thiru. Bharathiraja, who passed away today (10/06/2026) due to ill health, personally paid his respects by garlanding his body.His official handle also shared pictures from his time at the residence, where he could be seen with excitement as he paid his last respects to the famous filmmaker.

Various actors, directors and technicians shared touching messages remembering the filmmaker and his outstanding work. Music director and actor GV Prakash Kumar expressed his dismay and wrote, “Mr Barathiraja. I am truly saddened to hear this. He changed cinema and a strongman who inspired so many filmmakers.”Actor Gautami also paid tribute and said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of our Iyakkunar Imayam Barathiraaja sir.
