New Delhi: The BCCITaking a strict stance on the use of smart sunglasses by the players and match officials, the Anti-Corruption Unit of India has banned them from the IPL with immediate effect. The decision was made because of the advanced communication features in these devices, which allow live streaming and audio-video calling via mobile data or Wi-Fi networks. In an advisory issued to IPL franchises, the BCCI ACSU said it has come to its notice that some companies are marketing and selling smart sunglasses to players and support staff members.In its latest advisory, the BCCI also directed players and officials to collect smart sunglasses before entering the PMOA and warned of disciplinary action in case of violation.Players are already prohibited from using communication devices within designated PMOAs. Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals’ Romi Bhandar was fined Rs 1 lakh and given a warning after he was caught on camera using a mobile phone inside the team dugout during a match.“Please note that these devices are equipped with advanced communication features, including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling capabilities via mobile data or Wi-Fi networks,” the board said.The board has also barred guests from entering the hotel rooms of players and support staff due to security concerns and fear of honey-trapping.“Accordingly, under PMOA minimum standards, such glasses/glasses are classified as both ‘audio/video recording device’ and ‘communication device’.

“It is hereby notified that the possession and/or use of ‘smart glasses’ within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) is strictly prohibited”, it added.“All players and support staff are directed to submit such devices to the Security Liaison Officer (SLO) along with their mobile phones and smartwatches on entering the PMOA on match days,” the board said.It added that “Failure to collect such equipment will be considered a breach of PMOA protocol and may result in fines under PMOA minimum standards for IPL 2026”.IPL 2026 has already witnessed several violations of the code of conduct, with the BCCI earlier introducing strict protocols, including a ban on players going out late at night without prior approval from the security team.
