Barbra Streisand announced on Sunday that he will not attend the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival later this week where he will receive the honorary Palme d’Or, after suffering a knee injury.Festival organizers said they would honor the singer-actress despite her absence, according to a press release that included Streisand’s statement.

“On the advice of my doctors, as I continue to recover from a knee injury, I am unfortunately unable to attend the Cannes Film Festival this year,” he said in a statement. “But I am very honored to receive the honorary Palme d’Or and I was looking forward to celebrating the outstanding films of the 79th edition.”“I was looking forward to spending time with the colleagues I admire so much, and of course to return to France, a place I have always loved,” added Streisand. “My warmest thanks to the Festival, and to all those who continue to protect and defend the art of cinema.”
