Babul Supriyo says the rise of Himesh Reshammiya changed everything
In an interview with India Today, Babul Supriyo spoke about the pivotal moment when the sound of the industry changed dramatically, leaving him stranded at what should have been the peak of his career. “When I sang ‘Hum Tum’, after that, I got many romantic songs. But at that time, Himesh Reshammiya ji also came and started a new trend. Therefore, a steamroller passed them over all the romantic songs. Everything was ruined for me; everything fell apart. Everything went right away,” he said.
While acknowledging Reshammiya’s tremendous work, Supriyo was clear about the personal cost of this industry shift.In the same interview, Babul Supriyo did not hold back in describing the thrill of seeing a promising career unfold. “If I say I haven’t lost anything because of those kinds of songs, then I’ll be a hypocrite. After ‘Hum Tum’, people around me cheered that my career would take off. But instead, it went downhill as I went through the worst phase after that. It was really painful,” he said.On the issue of bad politics in the industry, Supriyo chose to take the high road. “There is also bad politics, but I won’t talk about that.” He stated that if it were not for the industry, this platform would not have been able to discuss what was wrong.
