Madhuri Dixit’s recent claim of being pregnant while shooting for the iconic song “Dola Re Dola” from ‘Devdas’ sparked a massive debate online. The speculation arose after choreographer Saroj Khan’s ex-partner, Rubina Khan, suggested that the actress was four months pregnant during the shoot. However, Madhuri has firmly addressed the rumor and clarified the facts.Speaking to SCREEN, Madhuri laughed off the claims and pointed to the timeline as proof that the story doesn’t add up. “Arin was born in 2003. So you do the math.” His eldest son, Arin Nene, was born on March 17, 2003, and ‘Devdas’ had already hit theaters on July 12, 2002, after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May of that year.While denying pregnancy rumours, Madhuri admitted that the hectic schedule while making ‘Devdas’ took a toll on her health. “I was under the weather because I was traveling a lot. I was going back and forth, shooting here and back. And all my shoots were night shoots. So for me, it was very tiring. I was a little under the weather, but nothing.”At the time, the actress was splitting between Mumbai and Denver after marrying Dr. Shriram Nene in 1999. Constant travel and night shoots made the schedule particularly tiring.
‘Devdas’ was Maduri Dixit’s first film before her mother
After her marriage, Madhuri moved to the United States, but continued to work in Indian cinema. ‘Devdas’ became one of the last projects she completed before taking on motherhood and welcoming sons Arin and Ryan. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Paro and Madhuri Chandramukhi. The film was adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s famous novel of the same name.

Bhansali took creative liberties by bringing the characters together in a grand dance performance that would become one of Bollywood’s most iconic songs. The song was composed by Ismail Darbar, written by Nusrat Badr and sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shreya Ghoshal and KK.

In an appearance on the Bollywood Thikana YouTube channel, Rubina Khan recalled a specific part of the choreography and suggested that Madhuri faced physical difficulties during the shoot. “There is a step where madhuri madhuri turns around and sits down. That shot continued from 9 am to 10 pm because she was four months pregnant. So she couldn’t turn properly and was dizzy.”He further said, “He also had a fever at that time. He struggled a lot. He would never ask to change a step. What Masterji (Saroj Khan) said was set in stone.” Madhuri’s latest clarification, however, has put the pregnancy speculation to rest.
