While talking to The New York Times, the actor was quite open and honest, talking about everything that happened in the last two years. In a rare and honest piece, while talking about his upbringing, he recounted how in 1992 his mother shot his father to save his life.Giving a detailed account of what happened, the actor said, “I think these things need to be talked about because it makes other people feel less alone,” adding, “I’ve never heard a story like this before. When this happened to us, I thought we were the only people. These things don’t bother me anymore.”Theron then elaborated on the subject, mentioning that she and her mother, Gerda Jacoba Aletta Martiz, had gone to the movies to spend some time together. They then visited an uncle’s house, and when he entered the bathroom unannounced, Charles Theron was livid. “He thought I was rude because I didn’t stop and say hello to everyone,” the 50-year-old added.He was barely 15 years old at the time, and he knew that his father was extremely angry with him. When they went home, he went straight to his room and asked his mother to tell him that he was already asleep. “I went into my room, turned off the lights and I was scared. My window was facing the road, and I could tell the level of anger, frustration or unhappiness in the way he got into the car,” he added.The actor said that his father entered the house and started filming around. Mom grabbed her gun, and the two hid in Charlize’s room, even though she started shooting at them right through the door. His mother then used her own gun to defend herself, and ended up shooting his father before he could get any more weapons.

The ‘Atomic Boba’ actor revealed that his mother had moved on from the incident at the time, or was pretending, until later, according to the actor, that therapy was not their thing at the time. “We didn’t have a therapist around, so in her mind the best therapy was, ‘We have to move on,'” she said.On the work front, Theron will next appear in ‘Apex’, a thriller film that will premiere on Netflix on April 24.
