'Assi' director Anubhav Sinha keen to make a film on pre-Independence India: 'It was a remarkable phase'

With her film ‘Assi’ directed by Taapsee Pannu now on OTT, Dir Anubhav Sinha he wasted no time in moving on. The filmmaker has already written two new stories, is working on a third, and plans to write a fourth in the coming break, an action film, a 1940s historical drama and even a return to romance.

Anubhav Sinha has revealed that four scripts are in the works

Anubhav Sinha told Midday that ideas have been flowing freely since the release of ‘Assi’ in February. “So far I’ve written two stories and I’m starting the third. Then I’m looking for a chutti, and I’ll write the fourth,” he said.While staying tight-lipped about specifics, the director tapped into broad genres by tapping into his creative instincts.A recurring attraction for Sinha is the action genre, a territory he last explored in 2005 with ‘Dus’. “Every now and then I keep getting drawn to do a nice action movie,” he admitted.Historical dramas are equally high on his wish list, especially stories set in 1940s India. A recent reading only deepened that tirade. “There are so many films I want to make in India in the 1940s. It was a remarkable phase. I finished reading The Case for India by Will Durant, who visited the country in the 1930s. It’s a beautiful book. After I finished it, I thought to myself, ‘There are so many films in this,'” he says.
