New Delhi: Angkrish Raghuvanshi of Kolkata Knight Riders has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and one demerit point for violating the IPL code of conduct during the match against Lucknow Supergiants. The incident occurred when he was sent off for obstructing the field. Upset with the decision, Raghuvanshi hit the boundary cushion with his bat and threw his helmet in frustration.
The IPL confirmed the punishment in an official statement. “Angkrish Raghuvanshi, batsman and wicketkeeper, Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and also accrued one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during match no. 38 against Lucknow Supergiants,” the IPL statement said.The league explained the real reason for further action. “Raghovanshi has violated Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match’. The incident occurred in the 5th over, when, after being dismissed for ‘obstructing the field’, Raghovanshi aggressively hit the boundary cushion with his bat and subsequently threw his helmet into the dugout.Raghuvanshi accepts the crime and the punishment. A Level 1 violation usually leads to fines or warnings depending on how serious the action is.Despite the controversy, the match itself was a sensation.
