In a new interview, Abhishek reflected on their journey together, from first meeting to falling in love, and also hinted at special plans for their 20th anniversary.In an interview with Subhash K Jha for Deccan Chronicle, Abhishek recalled their initial meeting on the sets of Raj Kanwar-directed ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’. “That would have been in 2000, on the sets of late Raj Kanwar’s Dhai Akshar Prem Ke,” he said, adding that their bond at the time was strictly platonic. “There was no telling what was going to happen then. We got along really well. But did I suspect he was my soulmate? Nope!”The two later worked together again in ‘Kuch Naa Kaho’, though their relationship remained unchanged. It was not until 2006, during the shooting of Umrao Jaan directed by JP Dutta, that things started to change. Abhishek described this phase as the point where there was finally a “spark”. Their connection grew stronger while working on Guru directed by Mani Ratnam.Abhish proposed at the premiere of the film Guru in New York Aishwaryaonce he imagined the future with her on the balcony itself. Soon after, their families reunited in a rock ceremony, and in April 2007, they tied the knot in an intimate wedding.Looking back, Abhishek shared, “We got married a few months after the release of the film Guru. Mani Ratnam remains special to both of us, we consider him a friend and godfather.
